Emergency! Emergency!

Let me ask you a question, by first painting a familiar picture. You are driving down the road. You are late for an appointment, probably going faster than you should be. Maybe you are weaving in and out of traffic. Suddenly you hear the siren. You look up in your mirror, and you see the lights flashing. It’s an ambulance, and he’s coming really fast. What do you do? Of course, you pull to the side of the road, as do all the other drivers. There is an EMERGENCY. Someone could be dying. This takes precedence over what, just a moment ago, seemed monumental in importance. What changed? You got perspective by the siren and the flashing lights and what they signaled to you.

Now, speaking of perspective, consider these words from AW Tozer:
In the times of extraordinary crisis, ordinary measures will not suffice. The world lives in such a time of crisis. Christians alone are in a position to rescue the perishing. We dare not settle down to try to live as if things were “normal.” Nothing is normal while sin and lust and death roam the world, pouncing upon one and another till the whole population has been destroyed.

Wouldn’t you agree? Oh, gracious Father in heaven, help us see and feel the reality of the EMERGENCY this world is in. Help us to realize that, eternally speaking, sirens are sounding and lights are flashing all around us. Please move us to compassion and to action!
